FA-ĀTHARTU HUBBA-L MUSTAFĀ (I PREFER THE LOVE OF THE CHOSEN ONE)

I CHOOSE AND PREFER THE LOVE OF THE CHOSEN ONE—AL MUSTAFA (FA-ĀTHARTU HUBBA-L MUSTAFĀ)

22. Fa-āthartu hubba-l Mustafā dūna gayrihi ** wa lau Ummu-Kulthūmi wa lau kāna Maryamā

22. I choose and prefer the love of the Chosen One—al Mustafa—over the love of anyone else, though they be Umm Kulthum or Maryam.²       


23. Fa-Wallahi mā fi-l qalbi hazun li-gayrihi ** fa-gayru Rasūli-llahi laysa li-ta‘alamā

23. I swear by Allah! There is no room or space in my heart for anyone but him, for (my heart) knows none but the Messenger of Allah.  
   

24. Ashāra ilā muznin fasāla musar'madān ** wa idh rāma maska-l mā'i amsaka mulhamā
                                              
24. He pointed to the cloud and it began to rain profusely, and when he desired for it to stop it ceased at once. 


25. Wa Innā Qurayshā ‘ayyabūhu wa saggarū ** wa shuqqa lahu dha-l jawwu badrān mu‘azzamā

25. When (the disbelievers of) Quraish mocked, ridiculed and belittled him, the moon was split into half for him as a great miracle and honor.³      


26. Waruddat lahu shamaun bu‘ayda ghurūbihā ** Wa idh kadhabū qad anzala-l Haqqu muhkamā

26. Allah returned the sun for him after it had set, and when they denied and spoke falsely of him, the Truth was sent down to judge (between them).      


27. Wa haddama Ahzābā bi-Ramyati kafihi ** Fa-Yā ‘ajabā min ramyatin Heena haddamā

27. He destroyed the confederates with a handful of pebbles or dust! How amazing and wonderful it was when a handful of sand destroyed (the enemies)!

2. Umm Kulthum and Maryam are the names of two of Shaykh Ibrahim’s beloved daughters. They are both erudite Islamic scholars themselves who recite the entire Qur’an daily.
3. Narrated Anas ibn Malik: “The people of Mecca asked the Prophet (SAWS) to show them a sign. So he showed them the miracle of the splitting of the moon.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 6, Hadith 4867). Allah says in Surah Al-Qamar, “The 
 Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder. And if they see a sign, they turn away and say: ‘This is continuous magic’” (54:1-2)

YA RABBI BI-DH DHĀTI WA BI-S SIFĀTI

يَارَبِّ بِالذَّاتِ وَبِالصِّفَاتِ # فَكُنْ لَنَا فِي سَائِرِ الْحَالاَتِ

Ya Rabbi bi-dh Dhāti wa bi-s Sifāti # fakun lanā fī sā'iri-l hālāti

Oh my Lord! By Your Essence and by Your Attributes, be for us in all of our states


ثَبِّتْ قُلُوبَنَا عَلَى الْإِيمَانِ # ولْتَهْدِنَا لِعَمَلِ الْإِحْسَانِ

Thabit qulūbanā ‘alā-l īmāni # waltahdinā li-‘amali-l ihsāni

Make our hearts firm upon Iman, and guide us to performing the actions of Ihsan


أُنْظُرْ إِلَيْنَا وَانْصُرَنَّ الدِّيْنَا # أَدِّحُقُوقَنَا وَأَدِّ الدَّيْنَا

Unzur ilaynā wansuranna-d deenā # addi huqūqanā wa addi-d daynā

Look upon us (with mercy), help us in our Deen, manage our affairs and remedy our debts


وَهَبْ لَنَا ذُرِّيَّةً مُبَارَكَهْ # تَكُونُ لِلّٰهِ بِلاَ مُشَارَكَهْ

Wa-Hab lanā dhuriyyatan mubārakah # takūnu li-llahi bilā mushārakah

Grant us blessed offspring who are devoted only to Allah without ascribing partners


وَاجْزِ لِكُلِّ مَنْ إِلَيْنَا أَحْسَنَا # وَ جَازِهِ عَنَّا الْجَزَاءَ الْأَحْسَنَا

Wajzi li-kulli man ilaynā ahsanā #  wa jāzihi ‘annā-l jazā'a-l ah'sanā 

Reward everyone who has been good to us, and grant them a complete requital


بِالْمُصْطَفَى الشَّفِيعَ يَوْمَ الْمَحْشَرِ # خَيْرِ الْوَرَى مَنْ قَدْحُبِي بِالْكَوْثَرِ

Bi-l Mustafā Ash-Shafee‘i yawma-l mah'shari # khayri-l warā man qad hubbī bi-l kawthari

By the rank of the Chosen One (al-Mustafa), the Intercessor on the Day of Gathering


عَلَيْهِ صَلَّىٰ رَبُّنَا وَسَلَّمَا # وَفَاضَ بِالْخَيْرِ لَنَا وَعَمَّمَا

‘Alayhi sallā Rabbunā wa sallamā # wa fāda bi-l khayri lana wa ‘ammamā

Upon him be the peace & blessing of the Lord, pour upon us every goodness and cause it to spread

TARIQA TIJANIYYA HIERARCHY

Them: "Can you explain the hierarchy in place in the Tijaniyya Order today? Who is the leader? What is a "muqaddim"? What is "tarbiyyah"? How is it different from other Turuq?"

Me: "The hierarchy in the Tariqa Tijaniyya is as follows:

There is only ONE Shaykh and ONE Leader in our Tariqa and that is Mawlana Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani (ra). Beneath him are:

1. Khulafa (Complete successors; Living embodiments)

2. Shuyukh of three kinds:

A. Shaykh al-Ta'lim (a teacher of the essential knowledge of the Tariqa)

B. Shaykh al-Tarbiyya (a guide through the stations of the spiritual journey of Suluk, from repentance to gnosis)

C. Shaykh al-Tarqiyya (a guide capable of dispensing constant spiritual elevation & expansion in Divine Gnosis)

***Some Shuyukh embody all three***

3. Muqaddams (Authorized Representatives) of two kinds:

A. Muqaddam Mutlaq (unlimited authorization in the Tariqa to dispense all of its litanies & administer its spiritual training or Tarbiyya)

B. Muqaddam Muqayyad (limited authorization with regards to everything mentioned above)

4. Murids (Initiated disciples or those who have received the Tijani Awrad & Adhkar from an authorized person). They are of three types:

A. Tilamidh (Students)
B. Fuqara (Aspirants)
C. As’hab (Companion)

There is a comprehensive breakdown of each of these, but for brevity sake I'll keep it simple.

Tilamidh (Students) are those who may have only taken the Wird but not much else.

Fuqara (Aspirants) are those with the Awrad and other special Adhkar and also Tarbiyya.

As’hab (Companion) are those with all Awrad & Adhkar, as well as Tarbiyya and Tarqiyya (constant spiritual elevation & growth).

Tarbiyya within the Tariqa Tijaniyya is a very unique and mystical form of spiritual training or education, it occurs by the Himma or Spiritual Force of Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani (ra) and with the appearance of its Fayda or its promised Divine Flood of Gnosis, Tarbiyya is the unique gift of Shaykh al-Islam Alhajj Ibrahim Niasse (ra), who manifest this great Tijani Divine Flood or Spiritual Effusion in the year 1929/30. The Tijani Fayda brings the direct Knowledge of God to all of those connected with it, who receive its Tarbiyya.

The Tariqa Tijaniyya is different from other Turuq in the same way that the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad (saws) is different from others Communities. We belong to the Two Seals: the Seal of the Prophets AND the Seal of the Saints!
