ORIGINS OF WIRDS BY SHAYKH-AL-ISLAM IBRAHIM NIASSE (RA)

"As for the origin of instruction (talqin) of the Adhkar & Awrad (the source is the Prophet himself).  It has been reported by Imam Ahmad in his Musnad, with a sound chain of transmission, and also by al-Tabarani and others, on the authority of Ya'la ibn Shidad who said:

'My father Shidad ibn Aws narrated to me, in the company of Ubaida ibn al-Samit, who verified that he was telling the truth: 'We were with the Prophet (SAW), and he said, 'Are there any strangers (gharib) among you? Meaning are there any Jews or Christians (ahl al-kitab) present.  We answered, 'No, O Messenger of Allah.'  He then ordered that we lock the door, and then he said, 'Raise your hands and say 'LA ILAHA IL ALLAH', so we held our hands up for some time.  Then he said, 'All praise and thanks is for Allah! O Allah, You have sent me with this word and You have entrusted me with it, and You have promised me Paradise on account of it, and You do not break Your promise!' Then he said, 'Rejoice! Allah has granted you all forgiveness!'

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani said: 'The report of Imam Ahmad (ibn Hanbal) and al-Tabarani is sound with an excellent chain of transmission.', but he added the following wording: 'The Messenger of Allah raised his hands and so we raised our hands as well. Then he said, 'Lower your hands and rejoice, because Allah has forgiven you!' 

  It has been reported by Shaykh Yusuf al-Kuzani, who is well-known as al-'Ajami, in his Risala that Ali ibn Abi Talib once asked the Prophet: 'O Messenger of Allah! Guide me to the shortest path to reach Allah, the easiest on His servants and the most favored in the Presence of Allah?'  The Prophet (SAW) replied, 'O Ali, I advise you to persist in the Dhikr of Allah in moments of isolation (khalwa).'  Ali asked, 'Does this virtue of this Dhikr depend on its being performed by every human being?'  The Prophet replied, 'O Ali, the Last Hour will not come as long there is someone on the face of the earth saying 'LA ILAHA IL ALLAH'

Ali then asked, 'How am I to perform the Dhikr, O Messenger of Allah?'  The Prophet said, 'Close your eyes and listen to me say it three times, then you say it three times while I listen to you.'  Then the Prophet closed his eyes and raised his voice saying, 'LA ILAHA IL ALLAH', while Ali listened.  Then Ali said the Dhikr three times while the Prophet listened.

These two prophetic narrations have also been reported by the author of Kitab ar-Rimah (Shaykh Umar ibn Sa'id al-Futi), in which he says that this is what was taught to Hasan al-Basri by Ali ibn Abi Talib, and he taught it to Habib al-'Ajami, who taught it to Dawud al-Ta'i, who taught it to Ma'ruf al-Kharkhi, who taught it to as-Sari as-Saqti, who taught it to Junayd al-Baghdadi.  They have been taught by the masters of spiritual training (tarbiyya) to whomsoever Allah has willed.  This is the origin of teaching the Awrad and Adhkar."~SHAYKH AL-ISLAM IBRAHIM NIASSE (ra) in 'Kashif al-Ilbas'

قال شيخنا الشيخ ابراهيم في كتابه كاشف الألباس عن فيضة شيخنا أبى العباس رضي الله عنه صفحة (29) ما نصه :-

وأما تلقين الأذكار والأوراد:- فقد روى الإمام أحمد في مسنده بإسناد حسن والطبراني وغيرهما ، عن يعلى بن شداد قال : حدثني أبي شداد بن أوس وعبادة بن الصامت حاضر يصدقه قال (( كنا عند النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال : هل فيكم غريب ؟ : يعني من أهل الكتاب ، فقلنا : لا يا رسول الله ، فأمر بغلق الباب وقال : ارفعوا أيديكم وقولوا : لا إله إلا الله ، فرفعنا أيدينا ساعة ، ثم قال : الحمد لله اللهم إنك بعثتني بهذه الكلمة وأمرتني بها ووعتني الجنة عليها وإنك لا تخلف الميعاد ، ثم قال : ابشروا فإن الله قد غفر لكم )) قال ابن حجر العسقلاني : رواه أحمد بإسناد حسن ، والطبراني وزاد فيه (( فرفع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ورفعنا ، وقال فيه : ثم قال : ضعوا أيديكم وأبشروا فقد غفر لكم )) وروى الشيخ يوسف الكوزاني الشهير بالعجمي في رسالته (( أن علي بن أبي طالب سأل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال يا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم دلني على أقرب الطرق الى الله تعالى وأسهلها على عباده وأفضلها عند الله تعالى ؟ فقال صلى الله عليه وسلم : يا علي عليك بمداومة ذكر الله تعالى في الخلوات ، فقال علي : هكذا فضيلة الذكر وكل الناس ذاكرون فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : يا علي لا تقوم الساعة وعلى وجه الأرض من يقول : لاإله إلا الله ، فقال علي كيف أذكر يا رسول الله ؟ فقال صلى الله عليه وسلم : غمض عينيك وأسمع مني ثلاث مرات ، ثم قل أنت ثلاث مرات وأنا أسمع ، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : لا إله إلا الله ثلاث مرات مغمضاً عينيه رافعاً صوته وعلي يسمع ، ثم قال علي رضي الله عنه : لا إله إلا الله ثلاث مرات مغمضاً عينيه رافعاً صوته والنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يسمع )) والحديثان أوردهما صاحب الرماح ، ثم لقنهما علي للحسن البصري ، ثم الحسن لحبيب العجمي ، ثم حبيب لداؤد الطائي ، ثم داؤد لمعروف الكرخي ، ثم معروف للسري السقطي ، ثم السري للجنيد البغدادي ، ثم انتقلت الى أرباب التربية إلى ما شاء الله ، وهما أصل تلقين الاوراد والاذكار إلى هلم جرا
